Gary Lineker has been naming his current best Premier League XI.
Speaking on the BBC Match of the Day Top 10 Podcast, Lineker has been discussing who the best players in the Premier League currently are, and, inevitably, he got onto the subject of Liverpool’s Virgil van Dijk.
Lineker named Van Dijk as one of the best centre-backs in the Premier League, praising him for how controlled and consistent he is.

Lineker spoke highly of Van Dijk, claiming that he’s an extraordinarily consistent player.
“Do you know how you judge a defender a lot of the time? The good ones you don’t see them on their backside very often. How often do you see Virgil van Dijk last ditch on the floor? Not very often,” Lineker said.
“He is balanced personified, always in control, he’s so extraordinarily consistent.”
Van Dijk never lets Liverpool down
Lineker is spot on about Van Dijk, he’s an incredibly consistent player who has barely ever put a foot wrong for Liverpool.
The Dutchman has been at the very top of his game for over half a decade now for Liverpool, and he’s been perhaps the most important player in this Liverpool team for most of this time.
At his best, Van Dijk was a Ballon d’Or contender, and while he may not quite be at that level these days, he’s still absolutely colossal for Liverpool and he’s someone you can always rely on.
Liverpool’s title hopes this season may have faded late in the day, but make no mistake about it, Van Dijk’s performances weren’t to blame.
Liverpool are so lucky to have Van Dijk, and as Lineker says, he’s one of the best in the business.
