Martin Keown has lauded Liverpool’s Joe Gomez as an ‘exceptional’ player and feels the defender is back to his best this season.
The Arsenal legend was speaking before Liverpool’s 2-0 win at the Emirates Stadium on Sunday afternoon.
Jurgen Klopp’s side recovered from a lacklustre first-half display to pick up a brilliant win at Arsenal today.
It’s fair to say that many Liverpool players weren’t at the races in the opening period, with Arsenal proving to be wasteful in front of goal once again.
Joe Gomez started at left-back in the absence of both Konstantinos Tsimikas and Andy Robertson.

And Martin Keown was full of praise for the Englishman ahead of kick-off today.
Keown lauds ‘exceptional’ Gomez as Liverpool beat Arsenal
Speaking on BBC One, Keown singled out Gomez for praise ahead of today’s game.
“I think he’s an exceptional player. I’ve always been a big fan,” the Arsenal legend said. “He had a horrific injury a number of years ago.
“I think he’s getting back to his best. In a strange way he came in, Tsimikas came off, broke his collarbone in that game just a few weeks ago, and he came on and was quite magnificent [against Arsenal].
“Of course, he’s going to be up against Saka in that role and that’s going to be one of the standout contests in this game.
“Gomez is now coming into top form. As a central defender, it’s never easy playing at full-back. He’s got pace, he can play and I think he’ll be honing in on Saka today.”

The former Charlton man played a key role in Liverpool’s title-winning campaign just three years ago.
Despite his drop off in form, he continues to be an important option for Klopp due to his versatility.
Indeed, Gomez is able to operate in any role across the backline and that has proven to be crucial for Klopp in recent times.
