'Every time he steps on the field': Pundit amazed by Liverpool star who 'absolutely' was the difference in win

Steve Nicol has named the Liverpool player who was the difference as Jurgen Klopp’s side booked their place in the fourth round of the FA Cup with a win away at Arsenal on Sunday.

The Reds added to the pressure on Mikel Arteta right now. An own goal and a stoppage-time strike from Luis Diaz saw the Premier League leaders secure the victory against the Gunners.

Arsenal definitely had the better of the first-half, with Martin Odegaard coming closest by hitting the bar. Kai Havertz had the opportunity to test Alisson on a number of occasions.

Diogo Jota praised as Liverpool win FA Cup tie

But the tide started to turn after half-time. Liverpool grew into the game, particularly after Klopp brought on Diogo Jota just before the hour-mark.

Jota set up the final goal of the evening. And he caused a number of problems for the Arsenal backline as Liverpool went on to punish the home side for not taking their chances.

Speaking on ESPN, Steve Nicol agreed that the Portuguese was the difference between the two sides as he praised him for making an impact once again.

“Absolutely. I guess the key, it kind of feels like since he came to Liverpool, the key for him is to stay fit for a real long period of time, because every time he steps on the field, he’s a handful, he creates chances for himself and for others, and he scores goals,” he said.

Reds need forward to replace Mohamed Salah

The forward appears to have a massive role to play for Liverpool over the next few weeks. Of course, Mohamed Salah is set to be away on international duty. And that could put a massive dent in their title hopes.

But Jota has now scored one and set up two more in just over an hour on the pitch since his latest return from injury. He also won a penalty in the win over Newcastle.

So Jota is stepping up when Salah is stepping away.

And he looks to be raring to go.
