Two beautiful strikes topped the voting this season.
Liverpool superlatives continue to trickle out after the end of the season. Liverpool fans voted on their favorite goals of the season and the results have been announced. Mia Enderby and Alexis Mac Allister won the honors this year with two excellent strikes.
For the women, the choice was a simple one. During a Continental Cup match against Manchester City, Enderby, a good 40 yards out and on the left wing, kicked the ball over her head and the head of the defender trying to stop her, regained control, ran into the box, and scored in the far corner.
It was a spectacular show of skill from the 19-year-old forward.
For the men, Alexis Mac Allister beat out second place Harvey Elliott and third place Darwin Núñez for his unforgettable first goal in a Liverpool shirt against Fulham.
In terms of introductions, Mac Allister’s swerving, long range stunner into the top corner is certainly one way to do it.
Should he have had all the time in the world to let the ball dribble into position for him in the center of the pitch so that he could wallop it in with his dangerous right foot? Probably not. But Fulham’s defensive shortcomings were Liverpool’s gain.
Both players joined the club this past summer, and both proved their worth with impressive performances. Mac Allister was a known entity, having played for Argentina and Brighton and Hove Albion. Enderby, however, was a surprise gem when she arrived with little fanfare from Sheffield United. Both will hopefully have long and fruitful careers with Liverpool in the years to come.
