Alan Shearer has given his verdict on Liverpool and Uruguay international striker Darwin Nunez.
The Newcastle United legend has noted what makes Nunez a threat to opposition defenders and has highlighted the areas that he needs to improve on.
So, what has Alan Shearer said about Liverpool striker Darwin Nunez? Let’s take a look.
Alan Shearer comments on Liverpool striker Darwin Nunez
Well, Liverpool took on Premier League rivals Arsenal away from home at the Emirates Stadium in North London in the third round of the FA Cup on Sunday evening.
Darwin Nunez started the match for Liverpool. Manager Jurgen Klopp deployed the 24-year-old as the central striker in a three-man attack.
In the build-up to the game, Newcastle United legend Alan Shearer was asked for his opinion on Nunez.
While the legendary striker noted that Nunez’s pace makes him a problem for the opposition defenders, he said that the Uruguay international needs to work on his finishing.

“He has also got that thing that defenders hate playing against, which is great pace. He is quick. He gets himself in so many great positions, he doesn’t have to be offside as many times as he is because of his electric pace.
“If he just waited, just be a little bit more patient for a second or so, then he would get in so many other times as well. I think there is definitely goals in there, but he has to work on that.”
My View: Darwin Nunez will get better
In my opinion, Liverpool and Uruguay international striker Darwin Nunez will get better. Nunez is not at his best yet, but he is only 24 and will improve.
While Nunez does miss chances, the striker gets into good positions and is always a handful for the opponents. And, as Alan Shearer has noted, he is very quick and is a threat to the opposition defenders whenever he is on the pitch.
I believe that the striker needs to work on his finishing in training sessions. The Liverpool coaching staff have to teach him a few things, such as how to hit the ball cleanly.
Nunez has made 48 appearances in the Premier League so far in his career. The striker has scored 14 goals and given nine assists in those games.
