203 Alexis Mac Allister has had an up-and-down time of it since joining Liverpool this summer.
At times, the Argentine has looked like a world-class player who is worth way more than the £35m that Liverpool paid for him, but, at other times, the midfielder has looked a bit out of his depth.
The South American is, of course, a fantastic player, but he’s had to play slightly out of position over the past few weeks as a number six.
Speaking on Premier League Productions, Clinton Morrison has been discussing Mac Allister and his role as a defensive midfielder, and he says that he doesn’t like the former Brighton man when he plays deep due to the fact he doesn’t think he’s quick enough to recover when he loses the ball in those dangerous positions.

Morrison spoke about the midfielder.
“They have another injury for Thiago which is a huge blow for them, Szoboszlai is still injured. And I don’t like Mac Allister in the six, he’s good on the ball, but I’d rather him be higher up, I don’t think he has the legs to recover if he loses it,” Morrison said.
Too expansive
Pace isn’t the biggest problem for Mac Allister when he plays as a number six, it’s the fact that he plays with so much risk.
At his core, Mac Allister is an expansive, creative player, and whenever he’s on the ball he wants to make things happen, and that leads to giving the ball away in those dangerous areas.
When you’re losing the ball like that, you do need pace, but if you play it a bit safer a la Fabinho or, as we saw last weekend, Jorginho, you don’t necessarily need to rely on those recovery sprints so much.
Mac Allister is better used further forward, that’s for sure.
