Danny Murphy has issued his verdict on the prospect of Liverpool making a move for Kylian Mbappe amid doubts over the Paris Saint-Germain forward’s future.
Kylian Mbappe is going to be one player the football world has one keen eye on over the coming months. As reported by The Telegraph, he is out of contract at Parc des Princes at the end of this season.
He is therefore, already able to discuss a pre-contract deal with clubs outside France. And the report notes that Liverpool held talks with Mbappe in 2022. And his mother is a fan of the Reds.
Danny Murphy does not see Kylian Mbappe signing for Liverpool
Liverpool would be interested in signing Mbappe if Mohamed Salah leaves the club. And speaking on The Take On, Danny Murphy does not see a world where the Frenchman plays alongside Mohamed Salah at Anfield.

“I think you could fit him in if Salah went. Because Salah’s the only one who really doesn’t have to do the intense work the others do. It was the same when Mane and Firmino were there.
“He’s not lazy, Salah. But he’s not particularly good defensively. He keeps his energy for the goals and making sure he wins games. So I think you can always carry one a little bit, because Mbappe won’t do the hard yards, he’ll just save his energy to win games because that’s the way he is.
“So I don’t think you could have both. And you couldn’t have both financially at Liverpool.
“I don’t think it’s so much about the perception from others. I think it’s more about the individual and the way they conduct themselves. Salah apparently, unbelievable pro, trains like a demon. Everyone loves him, he’s the nicest guy in the world.
“I think Mbappe might bring a bit more attitude. He is the way he is. I don’t see it fitting. Klopp runs a tight ship.”
Reds must keep options open with PSG star’s contract running down
It says everything about how good Salah has been this season that Murphy does not seem convinced that Liverpool simply have to find a way to sign Mbappe at all costs.
Of course, any team in the world would love to have the 25-year-old in their ranks. He has achieved some much in his career. And he still has so much more potential.
Ultimately, Liverpool will one day have to find a way to move on from Salah, whether that be by attempting to land a replacement or move in a very different direction.
If they are looking for a replacement, no-one would be better equipped to come in than Mbappe.
From the outside, it is impossible to know if Liverpool can finance a move for Mbappe, even as he approaches the final months of his contract with PSG.
But if there is a chance of doing a deal, there is no question that the Reds should leave no stone unturned as there surely will not be a better opportunity to sign Mbappe at the peak of his powers.
