‘Doesn’t score enough’: Tim Sherwood says £38m Liverpool player needs to find the net more

Liverpool may have the best attacking line-up in world football right now.

The Reds have five attackers who could be classified as world-class players right now with Mohamed Salah, Darwin Nunez, Diogo Jota, Cody Gakpo and Luis Diaz all being truly excellent players.

However, according to Tim Sherwood there is an area in which Diaz needs to improve – scoring goals.

Speaking on the No Tippy Tappy Football Podcast, Sherwood was running down Liverpool’s attacking options, and he noted that he doesn’t think Diaz scores enough goals.

Luis Diaz doesn’t score enough

Sherwood shared his verdict on the £38m man.

“Liverpool are similar, Salah is a prolific goalscorer, they need to keep him fit, Nunez is coming into his own. Jota they have lost now and Diaz doesn’t score enough goals. When they don’t play well these teams only one team has an Erling Haaland a scruffy finisher, he’s the man who does that and that will be the difference at the end of the season,” Sherwood said.

Has what it takes

Sherwood is right, Diaz could take his game to the next level by being more prolific, and he does have that in his locker.

Let’s not forget, Diaz scored 14 goals in 18 games in his half season at Porto before joining Liverpool back in 2022 – this is a player who knows how to find the back of the net.

His return of six goals this season isn’t poor to say the least, but if he could just have that bit more of a cutting edge in front of goal, Liverpool would really benefit from it.

Luckily for Diaz, Salah, Nunez, Jota and Gakpo are all there to pick up a bit of the goalscoring slack, so this isn’t too much of a concern as things stand.

Diaz is a top player, but he could become a true superstar if he finds a way to score more goals.
