Liverpool’s only representative at the World Cup secured him place in the final last night.

Ibrahima Konate was drafted into France’s starting line-up in place of Dayot Upamecano.

He took to Instagram after the match, celebrating his side reaching back-to-back World Cup finals.

Konate has been in-and-out of Les Bleus line-up in Qatar, but put in a great performance last night.

He helped his side keep their first clean sheet of the tournament, under intense Moroccan pressure for much of the game.

Konate impressed the French media with his performance last night, and will be very pleased with his contribution.

The 23-year-old managed four clearances, five interceptions, two tackles and blocked two shots.

Konate and Manchester United defender Raphael Varane sat deep for much of the match, with Morocco dominating possession.

In the end, the Atlas Lions ran out of steam, and Konate is now one game away from leaving the World Cup with a winner’s medal around his neck.

Konate impresses again at the World Cup

The 23-year-old posted a number of pictures on his Instagram celebrating his side’s win.

He simply used the caption, “En Finale!”, and received plenty of praise from his teammates.

Goalkeeper Adrian called Konate, ‘My big mountain’, while Marcus Thuram simply said, ‘Chef’.

Dayot Upamecano was clearly very impressed Konate, and loved his performance last night.

Konate will now be at the World Cup until Sunday, meaning he’s very unlikely to be involved for Liverpool when the season restarts.

The Athletic believe Joel Matip and Joe Gomez will line-up alongside each other on Boxing Day against Aston Villa.

Virgil van Dijk won’t be far off being ready after the Netherlands exited the competition at the quarter-final stage.

Jurgen Klopp will be hoping Konate can continue his form at the World Cup when he returns to Liverpool.

The Reds need to improve their performances from the first-half of the season if they’re going to qualify for the Champions League.

If they miss out, it could affect their recruitment in the summer, when a certain Jude Bellingham will likely be at the top of their shopping list.
