Xabi Alonso to Liverpool could now be taking another turn.
We have seen it all over the last week or so.
Reports last week suggested that Bayer Leverkusen boss Alonso was having ‘doubts’ about the move to Anfield.
Alonso allegedly had fears about replacing an icon like Jurgen Klopp and was worried about his lack of experience ahead of a potentially huge job.
Further reports then indicated that Alonso was ‘clear’ in his mind that Liverpool was the move for him, and he preferred Anfield over a move to Bayern Munich.
Well, there are new claims emerging today – and it may not be good news for Liverpool…

Bild reporter Christian Falk now claims that Leverkusen are in fact ‘confident’ that Alonso will reject Liverpool.
It’s suggested that Liverpool have spoken directly to Alonso’s agent, Inaki Ibanez, with Leverkusen aware of that contact.
Leverkusen allegedly aren’t worried though as they think that Alonso will choose to stay.
Alonso’s contract runs until 2026 and there is some confidence that he will choose to remain in Leverkusen rather than return to Liverpool.
So many conflicting reports makes this a tricky situation but we could hardly blame Alonso for fancy staying at Leverkusen.

Alonso will be well aware of the potential pitfalls when it comes to replacing a managerial icon.
David Moyes and Unai Emery didn’t exactly have huge backing from supporters after replacing Sir Alex Ferguson and Arsene Wenger respectively.
Replacing Klopp sounds like a thankless task and it’s not just what he has achieved at the club, it’s his emotional connection to the Anfield fanbase.
Any manager watching the rendition of You’ll Never Walk Alone after Sunday’s Carabao Cup final win over Chelsea would surely wonder how they could ever replace Klopp.
Alonso has built up a great reputation for himself and may well guide Leverkusen to their first ever Bundesliga title win.
Jumping to Liverpool too early could ruin that reputation if it doesn’t go well, and that may just leave Alonso feeling that another season at Leverkusen could be the best option for him.
