Not sure how this makes sense, but alright.
Liverpool FC’s new head coach, Arne Slot, will start preseason next month without Etienne Reijnen's services due to work permit issues preventing the latter from joining.
Reports emerged last week that the analyst and technical advisor had been having difficulty obtaining a UK work permit. Now, the Dutchman has confirmed that he’ll be staying at Feyenoord.
He joins Feyenoord goalkeeping coach Jyri Nieminen as another staff member of Slot’s previous club who won’t be moving to Merseyside. Nieminen was under consideration to join Claudio Taffarel in coaching the club’s goalkeepers next term but has decided to remain in Rotterdam.
There are still several vacancies in the backroom staff that need to be filled before preseason kicks off at the start of July, including a new goalkeeping coach, a set-piece coach, and probably an alternative to Reijnen in the analyst and technical advisor role. Hopefully, we’ll see progress on these fronts before July 1st.
