Liverpool defender Jarell Quansah made a “terrible error” in Saturday’s Premier League meeting with Burnley, according to Chris Sutton.

In the 65th minute of the Anfield clash, the Reds were very nearly caught out at the back after a poor attempt at a headed clearance by the 20-year-old.

Quansah went to cushion down a James Trafford goal kick, but David Fofana blocked the ball and then got past him to go clean through on goal.

Luckily for the Liverpool youngster, Caoimhin Kelleher pulled off a great save against the Burnley forward, before Wilson Odobert fired wide from the rebound.

“Burnley should be level,” Sutton said on BBC Radio 5 Live, via the BBC Sport website. “Quansah makes a terrible error and Kelleher makes a brilliant save from Fofana.”

Besides that error, Quansah was solid for the most part, and even came close to getting on the scoresheet a bit later on in the match.

In the 72nd minute, Burnley failed to clear the first ball from a corner. It dropped to Quansah on the turn and he struck the ball with an effort that went just past the post.

The Liverpool academy ace also finished the match with the joint-highest amount of duels won, coming up trumps in nine of his 11 attempts.

Quansah will learn from his mistake. And besides, it didn’t have any impact on the game.

Liverpool return to Premier League summit following win over Burnley

Liverpool ran out 3-1 winners against Burnley, taking the lead in the 31st minute through a header from the unmarked Diogo Jota following a corner.

Dara O’Shea equalised for the visitors with a thumping header of his own just before the interval, but the Reds got back in front through Luis Diaz on 52 minutes.

Darwin Nunez then put the game beyond the Clarets’ reach with a neat header from a Harvey Elliott cross after the visitors once again failed to clear their lines.
