Cardiff City are eyeing a move to sign Liverpool defender Nat Phillips on loan before the transfer deadline.

Nat Phillips recently returned from a disappointing loan spell at Celtic where he managed just eight appearances in all competitions in Scotland.

The 26-year-old was snapped up by former Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers on a six-month loan deal due to an injury crisis at centre-back.

But after an uninspiring spell in Glasgow, he looks set to head back out on loan this month.

Blackburn Rovers have already expressed an interest in snapping up Phillips for the remainder of the campaign.

Now, they could face competition for Phillips’ signature, with Championship side Cardiff City also keen.

Cardiff want to sign Phillips on loan

The Times journalist Paul Joyce took to X on Tuesday morning and claimed that Cardiff are eyeing a move to sign Phillips on loan.

He wrote: “Cardiff City looking to sign Liverpool defender Nat Phillips on loan.”

Phillips is out of favour at Liverpool and looks set to depart before Thursday’s deadline.

The 26-year-old was linked with a £10 million move away from Anfield back in the summer of 2022. But the Englishman has since struggled and his value has undoubtedly dropped significantly.

With just 18 months left on his current deal, it wouldn’t be a surprise to see Phillips move on permanently in the near future.

For the time being, it looks as if he’ll seal another loan switch to the Championship this month.

It’s no secret that Liverpool are looking to bolster their options at centre-back over the coming transfer windows, which would ultimately lead to Phillips falling even further down the pecking order.

Of course, Jurgen Klopp will depart at the end of the season but it’s difficult to see a new manager bringing Phillips back into the fold at Anfield.
