Liverpool were handed their worst result of the season on Thursday evening as they lost 3-0 at Anfield against Atalanta.
The Italians swept the Reds aside in the Europa League, and it looks as though the Merseyside club’s European journey won’t have the happy ending everyone is hoping for.
Simply put, Liverpool were below par on the day, and even the players they brought off the bench couldn’t make an impact.
In fact, one of their substitutes on the day caused more problems than he solved.

The Liverpool substitution that backfired
Speaking on Virgin Media Sport, Brian Kerr reviewed this game, and he says that Dominik Szoboszlai was poor against Atalanta, claiming that he caused the Reds a number of problems when he came off the bench.
“The subs didn’t have an impact on the game tonight. I was hoping we would be able to say look at what the subs did, but Salah didn’t have an impact, Robertson had a small impact with a few good passes and not much from Szoboszlai He caused more problems than he fixed if anything when he came on,” Kerr said.
Dominik Szoboszlai’s worst game for Liverpool
Dominik Szobsozlai has barely put a foot wrong since signing for Liverpool for £60m in the summer, but this may well have been his worst game for the Reds.
Indeed, he was all over the place against Atalanta, and he really didn’t look himself.
We’re not sure what was wrong with Szoboszlai on the night. Maybe the pressure got to him, maybe he was carrying a bit of a knock or maybe his head just wasn’t in the game.
Either way, it’s a problem that Liverpool need to solve swiftly, Szoboszlai is a key player for the Reds, and if he’s off his game for the final weeks of the season, the Reds may struggle to win the Premier League.
