'Captain in every sense': Nations media wowed by Liverpool player who showed 'superb authority' last night

Liverpool have a whole load of players away on international duty this week as the season nears its conclusion.

The Reds are awash with talent in their ranks and players have jetted off around the world to represent their countries.

The likes of Alexis Mac Allister have played for Argentina, while Cody Gakpo grabbed himself two assists in a win for the Netherlands v Scotland.

Of course, Colombian winger Luis Diaz was also playing. Luckily for him and Liverpool, he didn’t have to travel far as West Ham’s London Stadium hosted their game with Spain.

And in the end, it was Diaz and his Colombian teammates who prevailed, with the Liverpool man’s moment of magic settling things.

Liverpool star lauded by nations media as he shines v Spain

As Liverpool fans are probably well aware of now, Diaz played a crucial role in setting up the winner for Colombia.

He dazzled down the left before leaving his defender for dead. From there, his fine cross was turned home brilliantly by Daniel Munoz at the back post.

And writing about Diaz, Colombian website FutbolRed lauded the Liverpool man.

“Captain in every sense: talent, personality, reading of the game, superb authority in the one-on-one duel, assist for a goal, eternal headache for the Spanish markers, who never managed to decipher him,” they wrote.

Luis Diaz shines for Liverpool and Colombia

Diaz has been an essential player for Liverpool this season and carried that form into last night.

Like most of his Liverpool teammates away this week, it’s now a case of getting him back to Merseyside and fit for the run-in.

Diaz will be crucial for Liverpool and Jurgen Klopp in trying to get them over the line in both Europe and the Premier League.

Last night’s run and cross for the winner showed everything Diaz is about. Reds fans have seen it all season and if he can continue to produce such moments, then the title might well be in sight.
