With boss Jurgen Klopp leaving Liverpool in the summer, there is plenty that remains up in the air at Liverpool – how the squad will react, who will replace him and how they will act in the transfer window.

Liverpool have a number of areas that require strengthening in the summer but until the club bring in a replacement for Klopp, it is unclear who they will target. But reports suggest targets are being drawn up.

Midfield could be an area that requires strengthening, with a Champions League campaign set to come into play next season. Perhaps, a bit of experience for a side that is young, proven on Thursday night.

Federico Valverde a target for Liverpool this summer

Reports claim Real Madrid star Federico Valverde is a target and Liverpool have left a bid of £129m on the table for the versatile Uruguayan. The 25-year-old midfielder remains one of Carlo Ancelotti’s key players.

The 56-time Uruguay ace is already just three games shy of clocking up 250 games for Real Madrid. One of the best midfielders in European football at the moment. Liverpool, then, are obviously interested.

Whether he is available remains to be seen. He has a contract at Madrid that will stretch until the summer of 2029. He reminded all of his importance on Tuesday night, in the 3-3 draw against Manchester City.

What Micah Richards has said about Liverpool target Valverde

His wonderful goal, volleying in a Viniciur Jr cross was compared to that of Steven Gerrard on TNT Sports, by Rio Ferdinand. Talking on The Rest Is Football, Richards raved about the Liverpool target and his goal.

“He’s another one who performs every year. Right wing, centre mid, he can play everywhere with quality. He gives them real stability and technique. Quite young, not as old as you think. Such a mature player.”

It would be a wonderful signing for Liverpool, instantly becoming one of the club’s best players. A player that would work under any manager, not specific to a certain type of manager. But, a club-record fee.
