Bukayo Saka sends wordless reaction to Trent Alexander-Arnold after World Cup exit

Liverpool defender Trent Alexander-Arnold could only watch from the bench as England were eliminated from the World Cup.

Alexander-Arnold came on as a substitute against Wales, but was an unused substitute in England’s other matches.

It was a case of déjà vu for Alexander-Arnold, who only appeared once at the World Cup in Russia four years ago too.

Jurgen Klopp will be pleased that one of his key players should return to Liverpool in great condition.

The 24-year-old has been in training throughout the domestic break, and should return to Anfield in good shape.

Question marks over Alexander-Arnold’s defensive capabilities meant he found himself below Kyle Walker and Kieran Trippier in the pecking order.

However, the introduction of Jordan Henderson to the team would have provided Alexander-Arnold with the cover he normally gets at club level.

Despite not playing as many minutes as he would like, Alexander-Arnold appeared to enjoy himself in England training.

Alexander-Arnold shares message after World Cup exit

The Liverpool defender posted on social media after England’s exit from the tournament was confirmed on Saturday evening.

He simply said: ‘We’ll be back’, next to a picture of him consoling Marcus Rashford.

Rashford replied and agreed with his sentiments, while Bukayo Saka and Jordan Henderson loved his message.

Alexander-Arnold hasn’t enjoyed his best season in a Liverpool shirt, and is still waiting to record his first league assist.

It’s a reflection of the entire Liverpool side, rather than his individual form, as Liverpool currently sit seven points off the top four.

However, the Reds attacking options are set to be depleted for a little while longer, after Luis Diaz suffered a setback.

Alexander-Arnold will hope to put a disappointing World Cup campaign behind him and hit the ground running at Anfield.
