Jose Enrique says Liverpool’s Harvey Elliott was the best player on the pitch vs West Ham

Jurgen Klopp gave Mohamed Salah a break by starting him on the bench last night, and that opened the door for Harvey Elliott to start on Liverpool’s right flank.

The 20-year-old is a massive talent. He has struggled to find consistency in his Reds career so far, but last night was the perfect example of what he is capable of.

Elliott was pulling the strings for Liverpool in the first half. He played his own game instead of trying to emulate Salah, and that brought the best out of him.

Jose Enrique watched the game last night, and he was blown away by Elliott. He went as far as saying the youngster was better than everyone else on the pitch in the first half – even Curtis Jones, who was named the Man of the Match.

The Spaniard wrote in his Instagram Story last night: “Special mention to Harvey Elliott. Best player on the pitch today!”

Kostas Tsimikas and Virgil van Dijk were also hugely impressed with the £40,000-a-week (Spotrac) man.

A look at Harvey Elliott’s stats vs West Ham

Harvey Elliott started on the right wing last night and he had a fantastic game.

The Liverpool youngster had 75 touches of the ball and completed 42 of his 51 attempted passes, maintaining a healthy passing accuracy of 82 per cent.

Elliott also registered three key passes and created one big chance. He also attempted six crosses and six long balls in what was a truly fantastic display (SofaScore).

It’s a shame that the youngster didn’t score or pick up an assist, but he should be really pleased with his performance.
