Liverpool need to find a new manager.
For the first time in almost 10 years, the Reds are on the hunt for a new head coach, and in order to find the right man, they need the right people working behind the scenes.
With no Sporting Director in place, Liverpool’s rebuild will be difficult, and one solution that has been pitched is to bring Michael Edwards back to the club.
Edwards played a key role in building the Liverpool team that eventually won the Champions League and the Premier League under Jurgen Klopp, and Liverpool did ask him to come back to help them look for a new gaffer.
However, Edwards reportedly turned down this opportunity, but Liverpool are aware of some managers he does really like from his last spell at the club.
Indeed, according to Melissa Reddy, speaking on the Sky Sports Football Podcast, Edwards often had his eye on other managers during his time at Liverpool, and two gaffers who he really rated during that time were Roberto De Zerbi and Ange Postecoglou.

Reddy shared what she knows about Liverpool’s former Sporting Director.
“Both managers (De Zerbi and Postecoglou) have been historically analysed by Liverpool under Michael Edwards. There was always a list of managers being monitored. Their training sessions, their run of games in 15 game blocks. How they set teams up, how they handled adversity. Ange Postecoglou and Roberto De Zerbi would fare very well when Liverpool would do this due diligence,” Reddy said.
Amazing finds
This is why Edwards was one of the best in the business.
Ange Postecoglou and Roberto De Zerbi may be two of the best managers in the Premier League these days, but when Michael Edwards was at Liverpool, they were relative unknowns.
They’d never managed at the very top level, but Edwards knew just how brilliant they were.
There’s a reason Liverpool wanted Edwards to come back and help with this process, but, unfortunately, it doesn’t sound as though this reunion is on the cards.
