Conor Coady believes Bayer Leverkusen boss Xabi Alonso will replace Jurgen Klopp at Liverpool this summer.

Jurgen Klopp shocked the footballing world last week as he announced that he will be leaving Anfield at the end of the season. The German’s decision took many by surprise as his current deal was set to run until 2026.

Klopp will undoubtedly leave Liverpool as one of the club’s greatest-ever managers after delivering every trophy available during his spell in Merseyside.

But the speculation regarding his replacement has already ramped up, with Xabi Alonso emerging as an early frontrunner to land the job this summer.

Yet, Conor Coady believes Alonso will be the man to replace Klopp and secure a return to Anfield.

Coady thinks Alonso will replace Klopp at Liverpool

Speaking on BBC Radio 5 Live, Coady delivered his verdict on Liverpool’s next manager.

“I can see it being Xabi Alonso, if I’m being honest with you,” he told the Monday Night Club.

“We have seen over the last few months Trent Alexander-Arnold coming inside from right-back and different things,” the Liverpool academy product added.

“I have had a think about it and looked at it over the last few days, and you see a lot of people coming in now from right-back and playing this role and making a four in midfield and basically as a three-box three.

“Listening there about how Xabi Alonso builds up with a three and a two, I think it may be something along the lines of just trying to keep up with the Man City’s of this world.”

Alonso does feel like the obvious candidate at the moment but that’s not just down to his previous links with Liverpool.

The Spaniard was part of the Reds side which lifted the Champions League back in 2005 with a famous comeback win in Istanbul.

But the 42-year-old is also doing an incredible job with Bayer Leverkusen at the moment and has them sitting top of the Bundesliga over Bayern Munich. He’s even received high praise from legendary boss Jose Mourinho, who labelled the Spaniard an ‘extraordinary‘ manager.

Alonso’s Leverkusen side are playing an exciting brand of football and he’s already received plenty of interest from a host of Europe’s top clubs.
