‘Been poor’: Tim Sherwood says 25-year-old Liverpool player has been really bad recently

Liverpool really haven’t been at their best recently.

The Reds have won just two of their last five games, and when you were chasing a quadruple just a month ago, that’s not a great run of results.

Liverpool’s form has dipped as of late, and, as you can imagine, there is plenty of blame being pointed towards a number of players.

Speaking on Premier League Productions, Tim Sherwood has been discussing some of Liverpool’s recent defensive problems, and he’s pointed the finger at one player in particular.

Tim Sherwood says one Liverpool player has been poor recently

Sherwood spoke about Caoimhin Kelleher’s recent performances after he was dropped at the weekend.

“Clean sheets as well, normally when Virgil is there and playing tremendously well and Alisson is back in goal, Kelleher, I think he’s done a very good job when he’s stepped in there, but just recently it’s been poor for him,” Sherwood said.

Caoimhin Kelleher has dropped off

Caoimhin Kelleher was fantastic when he first came into the Liverpool team, but in recent times, he’s not quite been as brilliant.

Perhaps he’s reverted to the mean or perhaps he’s just got a bit too comfortable between the sticks, but Sherwood is right, Kelleher hasn’t been great.

To call him poor is probably a bit harsh. After all, he’s not made too many high-profile errors, but he’s not exactly blown anyone away as of late.

The way Liverpool defend means that they often rely on their goalkeeper to get them out of the mire, and while they can get away with that quite often when Alisson is in goal, with all due respect, Kelleher isn’t at the same sort of level.

We’re big fans of Kelleher and he has a lot of talent, but if you’re going to win the Premier League, you need a better goalkeeper.
