It’s a situation few Premier League clubs have experienced but Jurgen Klopp’s announcement that he will be leaving this summer leaves the Reds searching for a replacement.
The top name in the mix is Xabi Alonso with the former Liverpool midfielder working wonders at Bayer Leverkusen.

Yet speaking on social media, pundit Jan Aage Fjortoft has suggested that Liverpool may not be the priority for Alonso…
Xabi Alonso to Liverpool questioned
Fjortoft has reacted amid claims that Alonso would prefer to join Bayern over Liverpool this summer.
The Norwegian believes that these claims are wrong and that Liverpool area ahead of Bayern in Alonso’s mind.
However, the former Middlesbrough striker is adamant that staying at Leverkusen remains Alonso’s top choice.
Alonso has something special brewing with Leverkusen and Fjortoft thinks he won’t just walk away.
Fjortoft has now followed up on those claims on Thursday after ‘conversations’ into the situation over the last day or so.
Fjortoft has now ranked Alonso’s most likely decisions and believes that staying at Leverkusen is the leading choice – but possibly in order to hold out for the Real Madrid job in 2025.
It’s added that Liverpool are the third choice with Bayern in fourth as Fjortoft seemingly thinks that Alonso isn’t pushing to leave.
There will be emotional pulls for Bayern, Liverpool and Real in Alonso’s mind.
Alonso turned out for all three clubs in his playing days and the lure of going back will certainly appeal in all three cases.
That three European giants want Alonso sums up his quality as a manager and Liverpool will hope that the lure of Premier League football can help them win the race.
