Shaka Hislop believes that one Premier League manager is perfect for Liverpool as the Reds continue their search for Jurgen Klopp’s successor, but has his doubts about whether an appointment will be possible.
There remains a question mark over who Liverpool will appoint. Of course, it is one of the biggest jobs in world football, particularly with Jurgen Klopp being the one to step aside in the summer.
Xabi Alonso has dealt Liverpool a big blow by confirming that he will be staying at Bayer Leverkusen next season. There had even been suggestions that Alonso had already agreed to become Liverpool’s next manager.
It is hard to see where Liverpool go from here. Michael Edwards may be looking to spring a surprise given his incredible connections within the game.
But there are definitely some standout candidates.
Pundit says one Premier League manager is perfect for Liverpool
Liverpool are interested in Ange Postecoglou. The Australian has won a lot of admirers with the job that he has done at Tottenham this season.
Spurs have played some brilliant football under Postecoglou. And there is real excitement about what they could achieve in the coming years.
Speaking to ESPN, Shaka Hislop has suggested that Postecoglou would be ideal for Liverpool. But he does not think that the Reds will be able to lure him away.
“Listen, in terms of fit, I think Postecoglou is as close to Jurgen Klopp as you will get, both in terms of how his teams play and in terms of his personality, how he manages the players, how he manages the fans which is a big part of Jurgen Klopp’s appeal, certainly to Liverpool fans,” he said.

“I think that’s a pretty short conversation that ultimately you’ll be frustrated in. Then all of a sudden, you have to cast your net a whole lot wider.”
Reds will surely make big push for whoever the standout candidate is
Liverpool will surely do absolutely everything they can to get whoever they believe is the best man for the job. Ultimately, there are not going to be many names who tick enough of the boxes.
If they feel that Postecoglou comes out on top by some distance, then they will surely ask the question in the hope that the Tottenham boss wants to join.
Obviously, Daniel Levy is unlikely to make it easy for anyone to poach his manager. Nor should he. But everyone has their price.
Certainly, nothing in football should come as a surprise anymore.
