Virgil van Dijk had a rare off day against Arsenal at the weekend.
The Dutch defender was poor against Arsenal. He made a really costly mistake for the second goal of the game, and that wasn’t the time during the game he was left lacking.
Indeed, Van Dijk’s passing, anticipation and composure all seemed a bit off on the day.
Speaking on Premier League Productions, Don Hutchison has been discussing Van Dijk’s showing against Arsenal, and he says that the defender genuinely played with an air of arrogance about him at the weekend, claiming that the £75m man was way too casual on the ball at times.

Hutchison reviewed Van Dijk’s performance.
“It’s strange how Van Dijk there got sucked into Odegaard. I think when you look back at that Van Dijk will be devastated, he was never getting near Odegaard in terms of that pass,” Hutchison said.
“We were watching the game, and the way Liverpool played was very casual, bordering on arrogance at times, they took chances at the back, sloppy, lazy, a yard short with the ball, when you’re Arsenal that’s where you need to be ruthless.
“Look at this first time, Van Dijk has options, head it back to the goalkeeper or to the full-back, this is where I talk about the arrogance, when he does this and it comes off, he looks like a Rolls Royce, but when it doesn’t he looks casual and arrogant.”
Wasn’t sharp enough
We can’t understand why, but Van Dijk was really off his game at the weekend.
This was a massive game, but, on the pitch, Van Dijk looked as though he was playing in the park with his mates at times, he didn’t seem to be truly switched on, and it cost his team.
Was it arrogance? Probably not, Van Dijk isn’t that type of player, but one thing is for sure, Jurgen Klopp needs to get him to buck his ideas up and get his head straight heading into the next game.
