'All over the place': Jamie Carragher rips into 'poor' Liverpool player for Leeds performance

Liverpool and Leeds played out a thriller at Anfield tonight but there was yet more defensive misery for Jurgen Klopp.

The Reds had managed to level the game at 1-1 through Mo Salah in the first-half. But that leveller came after a shocking defensive moment from Joe Gomez once again saw Liverpool behind.

Gomez’s back pass to Alisson allowed Rodrigo to score. It was a mistake which sums up Liverpool’s season so far and set the tone for Leeds to fancy their chances. And take those chances they did in the end.

Of course, watching on for Sky Sports was Jamie Carragher. And he singled out Gomez for having a nightmare first 45 minutes, with the mistake just the icing on the cake for the England hopeful.

“Joe Gomez has been all over the place in this first half. He really has,” Carragher commented on Sky.

“He had a poor first half in Napoli a few weeks ago and Matip came on at half-time. I wouldn’t be surprised if we saw Konate at half-time either.”

TBR’s View: Gomez let Leeds in v Liverpool

The goal was a nightmare in itself but more importantly, it let Leeds have the belief that this Liverpool side not to be feared any longer.

Leeds seized on that feeling and caused problems for the Reds all night long. In fact, Leeds might have won by more on another night given how good they were in the second half.

For Gomez, it was the worst possible display really. He’s been pushing to try and get in the England set up but on this performance, he has no chance.
