Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp has been putting his players through their paces ahead of their return to action on Saturday.

The Reds have almost a full week between games. After winning Saturday’s 3pm kick-off last week, their next game isn’t until 12:30pm this coming Saturday.

Liverpool will hope to make it four wins from their last five in all competitions when they face Brentford on the road.

The Reds media team shared a number of photos from Tuesday’s training session, which saw Mohamed Salah return from his recent injury layoff.

Klopp called up a number of academy talents, and Lewis Koumas – who also featured in training ahead of the Burnley game and made the bench – was spotted in the thick of the action.

One of the pictures showed him grappling with Liverpool winger Luis Diaz as both competed for the ball.

Koumas seems to be high in the Liverpool coaches’ considerations at present. We’re seeing him more and more in senior training sessions and obviously made the bench last weekend.

The 18-year-old forward also made the matchday squad for the final Europa League group game against Union SG in December.

It’s great to see another Liverpool gem in and around the first-team, and judging by the picture, he’s certainly not afraid to get stuck in.

Lewis Koumas has been ‘brilliant’ for Liverpool

Koumas has been making waves in the Liverpool setup, with 12 goals and three assists from 15 outings for the Reds at Under-18 and Under-21 level this term.

Last time out, the youngster scored a brace to help the Reds U21s to a 3-1 win over their Stoke City counterparts in Premier League 2 action.

In November last year, Liverpool youth manager Barry Lewtas sung Koumas’ praises, in conversation with the Reds media team.

“Lewis has been brilliant for us, he really has,” Lewtas said of a player who joined the Reds ranks as an Under-11.

“He’s a real energetic frontline player, loves to run in behind, he is aggressive in how he approaches the game and has really good technique.

“He is a really good footballer. He has fitted in great with the lads, he has a fantastic character and he just gets on with it, he really does.”
