'Absolutely beautiful': BBC pundit amazed by 'superb' 25-year-old Liverpool player in first-half v Bournemouth

Glenn Murray was full of praise for Alexis Mac Allister during the first-half as Liverpool took on Bournemouth at the Vitality Stadium.

Of course, there would have been plenty of intrigue surrounding Liverpool heading into the clash on the south coast. The Reds were without both Trent Alexander-Arnold and Mohamed Salah. And they suffered a notable loss at the same ground last season.

Obviously, it is impossible to replace either Alexander-Arnold or Salah. But Alexis Mac Allister did his best to replicate the quality that both of his teammates bring to the side.

Mac Allister took a little bit of time to get going at Liverpool following his £35 million move in the summer. But the former Brighton star is definitely finding his feet at Anfield.

Mac Allister has arguably been the side’s outstanding midfielder more recently. And speaking on BBC Radio Five Live, Glenn Murray suggested that he was really impressed by the 25-year-old during the opening stages as Liverpool recovered from a slow start to start to stamp their authority on the game.

“I think Mac Allister has been absolutely superb so far. He’s just done a couple of touches there, one was a little Cruyff turn around the corner and it bounced back to him and he hit a 70-yard pass right out to Darwin Nunez, absolutely beautiful from the young Argentinian,” he said.

Mac Allister did his best to try and pull the strings. No one made more key passes during the first-half than him, according to Whoscored. Meanwhile, he won five challenges. Once again, no Liverpool player could match that tally.

He has a huge role to play while Wataru Endo is away on international duty. To some, Liverpool seemingly lack a midfielder who can really protect the defence.

But judging by his first 45 minutes against the Cherries, Mac Allister is ready to step up for the Premier League leaders.
