Liverpool could probably do with signing a new centre-back soon.
Joel Matip’s Anfield career, sadly, looks to be coming to an end, and while Joe Gomez, Ibrahima Konate, Jarell Quansah and Virgil van Dijk are all good options, the Reds could still do with some more depth.
The January transfer window has just closed, and according to Fabrizio Romano, speaking on the Here We Go Podcast, the Reds could’ve made a defensive signing in the winter window.
Indeed, Romano says, that RB Salzburg’s Oumar Solet was an option for the Merseyside club, but, ultimately, they decided against bringing him in.

Romano shared what he knows about the defender.
“A new centre-back, for Liverpool centre-back is an important position. RB Salzburg’s Oumar Solet was a possibility in January but then they decided not to proceed, not to do anything in the January transfer window, to move directly in the summer, and now I think the priority for Liverpool will be to find the right centre-back to put some fresh energy in that position,” Romano said.
For the best
As good a player as Solet is, it’s probably for the best that Liverpool didn’t do any January business.
We’re entering the final few months of Jurgen Klopp’s tenure in chare of the Reds, and there’s no point signing new players who may not fit what the next manager wants.
Solet would be perfect for Klopp, just like Ibrahima Konate, he’s from that Red Bull stable, and he’s a very physically dominating centre-back.
Not only is Solet a giant, he’s also fairly quick with The Speeds Database clocking him in as quicker than the likes of Gabriel Jesus.
Perhaps this is one Liverpool could revisit in the summer depending on who their next manager ends up being.
