Liverpool spent a lot of money on their midfield this summer, but there was still a nagging feeling that there was work to be done after the transfer window closed.
Indeed, while Liverpool signed four excellent midfielders in the summer, it still felt as though the final piece of their midfield puzzle was missing and another big signing was necessary.
However, speaking on the No Tippy Tappy Football Podcast, Sam Allardyce has claimed that Liverpool may have an in-house solution to their midfield conundrum.
Indeed, according to Allardyce, Trent Alexander-Arnold could prove to be the solution to Liverpool’s long-term midfield problems, claiming that his ability to play in the middle of the park could save Liverpool a lot of money in the future.

Allardyce shared his verdict on the 25-year-old.
“His defensive work is not as big a responsibility anymore, it’s really suited him and anyone who says it shouldn’t be his permanent position is barking up the wrong tree. Also it saves Liverpool a lot of money signing a player of that quality because his range of passing,” Allardyce said.
Make the switch
Alexander-Arnold’s move into the midfield has been discussed for years at this point, but it may now finally be time for Liverpool to pull the trigger on this one.
Indeed, with Conor Bradley showing all sorts of promise at right-back, Liverpool may have found an Alexander-Arnold replacement within the current setup that would allow the 25-year-old to move into the midfield on a permanent basis.
Of course, whether or not Jurgen Klopp does opt to make this switch remains to be seen, but as Allardyce says, it may be worth giving this a go rather than going out and spending millions on another midfield player in the summer or even in this January transfer window.
Alexander-Arnold’s future development will certainly be interesting to monitor.
