‘A candidate’: Fabrizio Romano says Liverpool could sign ‘very good’ player this summer

Liverpool will be looking to sign a new centre-back this summer.

Joel Matip’s departure from the club has been confirmed and according to Fabrizio Romano, Liverpool are already working on one centre-back signing.

Romano stated last week that the Reds are working on signing a centre-back, and now, speaking on The Debrief, the Italian has shared the name of a player who the Reds are looking at.

Liverpool looking at Willian Pacho

Romano shared what he knows about Pacho and Liverpool.

“The priority for Liverpool is a centre-back, and I think Liverpool will be really busy with that. A player they appreciate is Pacho from Eintracht Frankfurt. A very good centre-back, left-footed, it’s not easy to find left footed centre-backs on the market, so Pacho is a candidate for sure for Liverpool,” Romano said.

Michael Edwards’ first signing back at Liverpool

Willian Pacho probably isn’t a player that many Liverpool fans know that well. After all, he is a mid-table Bundesliga player, but, at this point, it’s hard to question anything Michael Edwards does.

Edwards has always had this incredible knack of finding gems when nobody else is looking. He’s the man who took a punt on the likes of Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane when they were rather unfancied among top clubs, and look at how that paid off.

Pacho could be Edwards’ first signing since returning to Liverpool, and the transfer chief will surely want to make a statement with this signing.

As Romano says, Pacho is a very good defender, and at the age of just 22, he has tons of room to grow and improve.

As painful as it is to say it, Liverpool need to start to plan for life without Virgil van Dijk in the coming years as he’s not getting any younger.

Pacho could come in and spend time learning under Van Dijk before eventually replacing him, and while those are big shoes to fill, Liverpool do ultimately need to find someone who can take over from Van Dijk when the time comes.
