Liverpool fell to a controversial 3-2 defeat in Toulouse to hand the Reds their first Europa League defeat of the season.
Jurgen Klopp’s charges went into the game on the back of three wins in the competition, hoping to get over the line and into the knockout stages.
However, Liverpool were below par for much of the game, even though they should’ve got a point from the encounter but for a contentious VAR decision late on.
Jarell Quansah scored to seemingly make it 3-3 in the seventh minute of added time, and referee Georgi Kabakov appeared to already be pointing to the centre circle.
However, the referee was called to the VAR screen, and the goal was ruled out. This was due to the ball having bounced off Alexis Mac Allister’s chest into his upper arm much earlier in the move.
Despite the manner of the defeat, Liverpool weren’t really at the races, with Toulouse twice leading by two goals in the match.
There weren’t many Reds players who emerged from the game with much credit. For what it’s worth, Harvey Elliott was one of those who did fairly well.

Admittedly, Elliott struggled to find a killer pass and, late on in the game, blazed an effort over the bar. But he was the best of a bad bunch, for sure.
As per Fotmob, the Reds prodigy won six ground duels, completed three dribbles, won two tackles, had four shots, and completed 51 of his 59 passes.
Elliott is one of the few who could hold his head up high tonight. The £46,000-a-week (Spotrac) talent continues to shine and he looks like he’ll go far.
