Michael Edwards looks set to return to Liverpool.
The Reds’ former Sporting Director looks likely to return to Anfield as a part of the FSG structure which will see him overseeing many footballing operations at Liverpool.
Of course, one of Edwards’ biggest jobs from the off will be to help the Reds find a new manager.
Indeed, Jurgen Klopp is leaving at the end of the season, and Edwards will have a part to play in finding a new gaffer.
Of course, having worked at Liverpool before, we already know plenty about how Edwards operates, and there’s already two managers who we know that Edwards is a big fan of.
Melissa Reddy reported a few weeks ago on the Sky Sports Football Podcast that Roberto De Zerbi and Ange Postecoglou were two managers that Edwards was looking at during his first stint at Liverpool, and we have to imagine that he’s only grown to be more impressed by these two as they’ve come into the Premier League.

There was always a list of managers being monitored. Their training sessions, their run of games in 15 game blocks. How they set teams up, how they handled adversity. Ange Postecoglou and Roberto De Zerbi would fare very well when Liverpool would do this due diligence,” Reddy said.
Edwards is clearly a fan of both De Zerbi and Postecoglou, but with Postecoglou unlikely to leave Tottenham after just one season, De Zerbi could now be ahead of him in this race.
Of course, that isn’t to say that De Zerbi would be the favourite for the job. After all, Edwards hasn’t been at Liverpool for a few years now, and he probably has other managers on his radar that he’s been quietly looking at while he’s been out of work.
However, Edwards’ historical admiration of De Zerbi does bode well for the Italian if he does want the Liverpool job, and if Edwards’ return to Anfield is, as expected, secured, De Zerbi’s chances of getting this job will certainly increase.
