What’s Next: Liverpool’s (Slightly) Lighter March

We take a look ahead at Liverpool’s March fixture list.

Liverpool’s schedule has been, in a word, congested. From about late November, Liverpool have fairly consistently played two matches a week. Which is what made this past weekend a little bit of a novelty, with no Liverpool football on tap.

While this certainly makes it difficult for fans who’d love nothing more than to be able to catch a match in order to complete their little weekend ritual, I know most would take that trade-off in order to give our players a necessary break. The squad has certainly looked a bit leggy of late and knowing that Arne Slot does not like to rotate much - a similarity he holds with predecessor Jurgen Klopp - any respite would be welcome.

And so Liverpool don’t return to action again until a full seven days off when they face off against Paris St. Germain in the first leg of the Champions League tie. March, it turns out, will actually bring with it a bit of a break.

Looking ahead, Liverpool only have 4 matches to play this month: both legs of the aforementioned Champions League tie with a Premier League match against Southampton wedged between. Then, the Reds face-off against Newcastle at Wembley in the Carabao Cup Final as their last match before heading into the international break.

It’s a lighter schedule that, with some folks hopefully allowed to stay back from national team duty to rest, should hopefully help folks to find their legs in time for the important run-in. All matches are higher stakes at this stage of the season, but when you’re talking about a team that is clearly set at winning as much as possible, any extra rest would be welcome.
