Wednesday’s officials allowed Everton to be physical
Speaking ahead of Liverpool’s match with Fulham on Sunday, head coach Arne Slot expressed his optimism that his side escaped the Anfield Derby with no fresh injuries despite the apparent physicality.
Slot was careful with his language around Alexis Mac Allister, however, who was victim of a horrible tackle from James Tarkowski. Though the midfielder finished the game seemingly unscathed, Slot emphasized his caution around player welfare:
“The boys still didn’t come in yet. I hope because Macca [Alexis Mac Allister] finished the game that it is all good with him.
“But sometimes adrenaline or just keeping on running can help you, and then when you have a night of sleep you can come back and feel, ‘Hmm, maybe I do feel something now.’
“But I hope and expect everybody is ready to play on Sunday again from the ones that were on the pitch yesterday.”
Mac Allister was not the only player who felt some hard contact for Liverpool — Darwin Núñez comes to mind as well — but optimism is the way forward.
