The Reds continued their preparations with a friendly at Melwood.

Matt Beard’s side continued their preparations for the upcoming league season with a pre-season tune-up against Manchester City. Given the news of the passing of Liverpool FC great Ron Yeats, both sets of players wore arm black armbands in remembrance of the Scotsman.

Taylor Hinds wore the captains band and lead the squad out against City. Liverpool managed to pull ahead as summer signing Cornelia Kapocs played a pass to Marie Höbinger, with the Austrian driving a great finish past City keeper Ayaka Yamashita. Liverpool took that one goal advantage with them into the locker room at halftime.

Unfortunately, City managed to score two in the second frame, netting the equalizer just six minutes after the re-start and the eventual winner at around the hour mark. Liverpool will likely be disappointed to not have managed the game better but that’s what pre-season matches are for: to work out the kinks before the matches actually count.

Liverpool have just 1 more pre-season match left before the league season kicks-off on September 22nd where the Reds face off against Leicester. Next Sunday, Liverpool will face Everton in the final pre-season match. Here’s hoping that the crew manage to make the necessary adjustments to get themselves ready for a run at the top of the league table.
