If reports out of Spain are to be believed, Liverpool apparently pipped the Spanish giants at the last minute.
Earlier this week, Liverpool shocked the football world by—gasp—signing a footballer. Not just any footballer though, Italian attacker Federico Chiesa.
Chiesa appeared for all the world to be ready to set the world alight before his unfortunate ACL injury, then being misplayed by football terrorist Massimiliano Allegri, and finally not being fancied by new manager Thiago Motta.
All of these factors resulted in Liverpool being able get Chiesa at a snip, a ridiculously low £10M plus potential add-ons.
According to reports out of Spain, Barcelona were also in for Chiesa’s signature, and even had a 3-year deal agreed for the player, but apparently low balled Juve with an initial offering of just £8M. Oh, and apparently they couldn’t have registered Chiesa anyway. I guess they forgot to pull their lever.
This report is unlikely true, but if it is, it is funny in so many ways (all of which make Barcelona look bad).
To recap: they insulted Juve over a measly £2M—basically a rounding error in transfer deals among top clubs these days—which then allowed Liverpool to step in and get their player at a bargain. Oh, and they couldn’t register him anyway, because of the catastrophic ineptitude of the club’s current management.
Well done boys, good process.
